CASE STUDY

Silverstream Technologies

Silverstream Technologies is a marine technology company helping the global shipping industry reduce fuel consumption and emissions through clean technology. To give customers and prospective customers greater confidence in its security arrangements, Silverstream engaged Advania to support its pursuit of ISO 27001 certification.

Advania worked with Silverstream Technologies and helped design and implement its Information Security Management System and prepare the business for certification. Following successful certification, Advania has continued to provide annual internal audits to support ongoing compliance and improvement.

Beyond Certification

ISO 27001 is not a one-off exercise. Once certification had been achieved, Silverstream continued working with Advania to maintain and improve its ISMS. Advania has returned annually to conduct independent internal audits on Silverstream’s behalf. These audits assess how effectively the ISMS and its controls are operating, identify potential areas of drift and provide recommendations for improvement.

The audits also consider whether previous findings have been addressed and whether policies, processes and controls remain appropriate as Silverstream’s business and technology environment evolve.

Internal audits conducted in 2024 and 2025 identified no major non-conformities. The 2025 audit also noted increased maturity and stronger integration of the ISMS into Silverstream’s wider business processes. Through this ongoing relationship, Silverstream has continued to strengthen its security arrangements and support the maintenance of its ISO 27001 certification.

The challenge

Silverstream Technologies was increasingly being asked to demonstrate its security credentials to customers and prospective customers, often through detailed third-party supplier questionnaires.

The business made the decision to pursue ISO 27001 certification to provide recognised, independent assurance that information security risks were being managed effectively. Certification would give customers, prospective customers and internal leaders greater confidence in Silverstream’s security arrangements and demonstrate alignment with internationally recognised good practice.

Silverstream needed to achieve certification within a demanding timeframe. Its internal teams were already balancing the requirements of the project alongside their day-to-day responsibilities, so additional expertise and practical support were required.

A tailored approach

Advania worked closely with Silverstream to design and implement an Information Security Management System that reflected how the organisation operated. Rather than applying a generic set of templates, the ISMS was tailored to Silverstream’s business, technology environment, risks and ways of working. Advania’s support included:

  • Designing the structure and core processes of the ISMS
  • Developing and refining the required policies and procedures
  • Translating ISO 27001 requirements into practical internal activities and responsibilities
  • Helping Silverstream gather and organise the evidence required for audit
  • Supporting the internal team in preparing for the certification audit

This hands-on approach reduced pressure on Silverstream’s internal resources and provided a clear route from initial development through to audit readiness.

The outcome

Silverstream successfully achieved ISO 27001 certification within the required timeframe. The engagement provided Silverstream with more than a collection of documents. It established a practical management system that could be operated and maintained by the business after certification, while providing customers and other stakeholders with independent assurance over its approach to information security.
